DDay March 2009

Mubahil Farooq

Another one of the younger members to represent London Warriors at this event, still only a yellow belt Mubahil had plenty of enthusiasm for the whole team, Mubahil started off very strong and finished in the same fashion, he eventually finished off runner up at the end of his bout.

Michael Wride

Having represented the London Warriors in Wales the previous week, this was Michael’s second outing for the Academy; he was matched against a very strong opponent. Michael started off very well with a combination of kicks and punches, unfortunately Michael had to concede victory as a result of injury, he will be back so watch this space.

Josh Taylor

This was 11 year old Josh’s first time representing London Warriors in a tournament. From the second that the referee said to Josh and his opponent ‘Fight’ it was none stop action all the way, Josh eventually overcame his equally enthusiastic opponent with a never ending flurry of hand and feet techniques and stamina. This young warrior is one for the future.

Andrei Demyanchuk AKA Ukrainian Titanium

At 13 years old Andrei is another one for the future, on the day his movement was superb, combined with his punching and kicking abilities, he demonstrated a display akin to a more mature and experienced fighter, needless to say Andrei went on to be declared winner of the bout.

Liz Ferioli AKA Lady Liz

Liz fought Clare Buy an opponent who is extremely experienced and well versa in the Martial Arts. Both girls met at both semi contact and Light Continuous. On this occasion Liz finished runner up in the semi contact contest but exacted revenge to convincingly win the Light Continuous bout.

Dean Hanley AKA Deanomite

Dean AKA Deanomite is improving with every tournament, his movement, imagination and creativity is coming on leaps and bounds, this bout would be well suited to the bigger stages. Dean’s movement was second to none, with an array of head and punishing body shots against a worthy opponent, this bout went to a 30 second extension after being declared a draw. Deano had plenty left in the tank to convince the judges he was the rightful winner.

Aliaksei Marynin

This 17 year old Warrior has only been training for 1 month but fought like a true pro, he faced a tough opponent, but with his movement and reach advantage Aliaksei went on to a convincing win.

Mor Segev AKA Mor Thor

Like Liz Mor the ‘Thor’ entered 2 sections, he won his semi contact bout convincingly 15 points to 3.

In his light contact bout Mor had a mountain to climb against man mountain Matayo Fernandes of Watford Freestyle, Mor the Thor had to wield his ‘Hammer’ to match his formidable opponent, this fight was another one suited to the bigger stage, Mor went on to finish runner up being voted by 2 judges to 1 in ‘man mountain’ Matayo’s favour.

Rodney James AKA Ras Foxz

Rodney AKA Ras Foxz entertained the crowed against an opponent who was predominantly a kicker; this bout was as well as pleasing to the eye, very technical with an array of height flashy spin kicks from his opponent, Rodney finished in his usual relaxed style to be declared the winner.

Kate Hardie

Kate represented London Warriors for her 1st time, and what a performance, with a bit of a nervous start against a more experienced opponent, Kate grew in confidence and stature as the bout went on, with her dancing feet and fighting abilities, her opponent was left chasing shadows, Kate Hardie went on to win in style, hope to see her more often.

Summary

It was another great day for London Warriors at a tournament hosted by Watford Freestyle. It was a fun day with lots of friendships forming, Well Done All
